This is one of my favourite interviews, about psychics, cold reading, superstition and all that jazz.
It’s more and more common to see the scientific, the atheistic, the sceptic and the enlightened in the media and especially among us youth types. It wasn’t until I read The God Delusion in 2006, and subsequently everything I could get on the aforementioned topics, that it really became a part of my life and progress definitely seems to be made. Everyone knows the whole debate about everything it seems, and people are coming round to the idea of what science actually is (rather than just labcoats, boredom, physicschemistryandbiology) as a methodology and system of empirical thought and discovery. Fear and ignorance will live longer than I will, but hopefully with more people like these geezers it’ll decrease further.
It’s a sad truth that to get a bestseller you just need to write some sciencey sounding stuff against god now, but I’d much rather that than the awful alternative of new-age medicines and nutritional guides. By the way Waterstones/most bookshops, feng shui type bullshit does not count as philosophy or psychology. Fuck off.
P.S. Bless Derren and his nodding tic
I never knew the nodding was a tic I thought it was all part of his crazy mind control performance!
I wish he would stop trying to convince everyone that actually he’s not a massive ponce. (Apparently ponce means someone pretending to be intelligent or having class or culture… How fitting. Apart from the class bit… You can’t get much higher class).
And I highly doubt that even if this figure was true - which it’s not, it’d be because Oxford are discriminatory? Eugh, God he is such a fucking idiot.
I remember in like late middle school/early high school I said to my parents that I was scared that the Conservatives would one day get into power and they agreed with me but now it’s happened I find it hard to care. If I cared that much I’d just be forever angry and frustrated.
I’ve just come to accept it and let the ludicrous changes wash over me in the hope that not too long from now, this government will collapse.
